IAGES PG MAS Basic Skill Course Guidelines
Under the auspices of the IAGES Postgraduate Training Forum
Aim and objectives
To train surgical postgraduates in all teaching institutions with MAS skills through 2-day hands-on training in the basic laparoscopy, suturing skills and basic upper GI flexible endoscopy in association with the Dept of surgery in the chosen institution with the help of IAGES zonal VP and EC members under the direction of Chairman, IAGES postgraduate training forum.
Eligibility criteria
All PG surgical students on becoming a postgraduate member of IAGES

Venue/Time
- Could be at any place chosen by the Zonal EC member (Preferably within the premises of any teaching institution)
- Time: 10am to 5 pm (7 HOURS)/ Both days
Course Syllabus
Day 1
Lecture module (20 min each): 10am-11am
- Outline of basic laparoscopic equipments and OT set up
- Esssence of Endovision and Ergonomics for laparoscopic surgeon
- Principles of Laparoscopic Tissue Approximation
Coffee break
Master Video module (15 min each): 11.30am-12.30pm
- Lap cholecystectomy step by step
- Lap appendicectomy step by step
- Lap groin hernia step by step
Inaugural function
- EC member/VP should explain the participants regarding all the training and fellowship courses and research initiatives of IAGES (enclosing the key aspects in word format)
- If needed, please ask for Copy of PPT from Hon Sec office)
Working Lunch
Hands on Module (45 min each)- (3 or 4 stations/by rotation)- 1.30pm -4pm
- Hands on session on Extra corporeal Knots
- Demonstration of Intra corporeal Suturing
- Know your laparoscopic equipments and disinfection methods
- Display all equipments in the table and trolley for lap chole and arrange for an interactive round table discussion

Panel discussion on complications during Laparoscopic surgery ( 4pm to 4.45pm)
Day 2
Lecture Modules on Flexible endoscopy
- Endoscopy hardware, room set up
- Indication , consent and preparation and steps of diagnostic endoscopy
- Endoscopic Atlas of upper GI disorders
- ABC of colonoscopy
- Overview on Therapeutic endoscopy
Simulation module
- Demonstration of steps of endoscopy and colonoscopy with plastic static models and various other simulators
- Demonstration of steps of endoscopy and colonoscopy with plastic static models and various other simulators
Panel discussion on Complications of Endoscopy
Assessment Module
- 50 question MCQ(Laparoscopy 30 and endoscopy 20 questions)
- Feedback form from all the participants
Valedictory function/Tea break
- Issue of certificates and Prizes
- Apply and get State medical council credit points well before the conduct of the program
- Issue of certificates and Prizes
Finally
- List of participants with their contact phone number and e-mail id should be sent along with the course report within 4 weeks after the course
- All Feedback forms from participants to be submitted to Hon sec for evaluation along with the course report
- Submit the detailed report of the event (with photos) and apply for the teaching grant of Rs 100000=00 through Zonal VP to Treasurer & Hon Secretary IAGES with an account statement.
- Sponsorship amount will be sent only after the conclusion of the teaching program subsequent to submission of all above documents.
- Minimum of 50 postgraduates and a maximum of 100 students are expected to benefit from each course ( all regional medical college postgraduate students are encouraged to attend and benefit)
Requirements for the Course
- 5 lap trainers with monitors (From Om Surgical, J & J , Olympus or similar companies)
- Lap equipment: 5 sets
- Needle holder, scissors, 2 graspers, Roeder knot pusher
- Upper GI endoscopy Plastic simulator models: Olympus/Pentax team (optional)
- Adequate suture packs(2-0 silk, vicryl and 0 chromic etc)
- Adequate hand gloves/Bins
(Please note, PG MAS Basic skill course can also be held during FIAGES/EFIAGES program in parallel hall utilizing the expertise of national faculty,)
